Diagnosis of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is one of the rarest of cancers that has been posing a grave challenge to the common man as well as the medical scientists. One of the reasons that make this cancer all the more dangerous is that its symptoms is not at all specific to the cancer only. All of its symptoms are in fact similar to the other diseases that the common man as well as the doctors is familiar with. As a result it is very much difficult for the doctors to diagnose the cancer of mesothelioma under normal circumstances. Some of the diagnostic methods that the medical scientists use in order to diagnose the disease of the mesothelioma are:

CAT scan: CAT scan is one of the most often performed diagnostic procedures in diagnosing the cancer of mesothelioma. In this method three dimensional x-rays are used in order to determine the spread of the cancer in the other parts of the body as well as the bones.

MRI: The method of magnetic resonance imaging is also one of the most preferred methods of diagnosing the cancer of mesothelioma. In this one of the most sophisticated methods powerful magnetic field are used in order that align the water molecules of the present inside the body that helps the doctor in examining the internal body structures and organs of the patient. The method of MRI can be very helpful in determining the growth of soft tissues like cancerous growths inside the body.

X-rays: The method of X-rays is one of the oldest and the most favored methods. Although it cannot detect small growths like cancerous tissues but still it can help the doctor in detecting whether there are some incidence of the spread of the cancer of mesothelioma inside the human body.

Another test that helps the doctor in diagnosing the presence of the cancer of mesothelioma is the method of biopsy. If all these tests do not help the doctor in determining the presence of mesothelioma in a patient then there are some other tests like thoracoscopy in which a small camera is introduced into the afflicted region to get a complete view of the area and also to correctly draw out the liquid from the afflicted region to perform the biopsy.
