How is Mesothelioma Treated

Mesothelioma is one cancer which is nearly impossible to detect as well as difficult to treat. One reason behind this dangerous aspect of mesothelioma cancer is that the symptoms of this disease are not at all specific to this cancer only. In fact the symptoms of this cancer are similar to the symptoms of other diseases. Another factor that makes the treatment of this cancer all the more difficult is that the asbestos fiber has a long latency period. The asbestos fiber once inside the mesothelium remains dormant for as long as 30 to 40 years. After such a long time this fiber starts meddling with the normal and natural functioning of the mesothelium cells that leads to the development of the cancerous tissues in the mesothelium. The non specific nature of the symptoms of this cancer and the long latency period of the asbestos fiber makes the timely detection of this cancer very much difficult. The traditional treatment methods that have been reasonably successful in treating the other cancers are not at all successful in treating mesothelioma. A combination of these treatment methods are sometimes used in order to improve the quality of life of the patient.
