Know the treatments of Mesothelioma to help the patients
When it comes to the discussion of cancer, a horrible image of tremendous pain and suffering comes to the mind. But, with the advancement of modern medical science several remedies of this disease have come into light. But, still now there is one type which acts as a threat to the medical practitioners, named Mesothelioma.
The fibrous dust of Asbestos, which is a natural mineral, is the reason behind this disease. It takes a minimum of 30 years to develop the cancerous cells. As its symptoms are similar with symptoms of other diseases, doctors often face difficulties in detecting it. That’s why, in most of the cases it is detected in the last stages.
In the later stage, when patients are diagnosed with Mesothelioma, they only have just a few months to survive. At that stage, treatment can only improve the heath condition of the patients, but can not cure them completely.
First doctors perform a complete examination of body to check general signs of health as well as other diseases. Then an X-Ray or CT scan is suggested by the doctors. The medical practitioners also make biopsy to confirm the cancer. In this procedure, sample cells or tissues from the pleura or peritoneum is taken and examined through a microscope. After the detection of Mesothelioma, first radiation or chemotherapy or the combination of both is performed. In the radiation therapy, high-energy X-Ray beam is used to kill the cancer cells.
In the chemotherapy, drugs are used to stop the growth of cancerous cells. When this therapy is injected into a vein or a muscle, the drugs enter into the bloodstream and reach the cancerous cells. This type of chemotherapy is called systemic chemotherapy. There is another type of chemotherapy, used by the doctors in Mesothelioma, named regional chemotherapy. This treatment performed in a specific region of body or in a particular organ.
