Photodynamic Therapy
The photodynamic therapy uses the light energy to destroy the cancerous cells in the afflicted region. It is a highly specialized form of treatment that is used to treat primarily the pleural mesothelioma. In this type of treatment the patient is administered a liquid that makes the cancerous cells extremely sensitive to the light of a particular wavelength. Some three to four days after the administration of the drug, the patient is exposed to the light of that wavelength. The cancerous cells that have absorbed that liquid are destroyed when exposed to that light.
