Surgery
The method of surgery is generally performed on those patients that are physically, mentally, as well as emotionally healthy enough to withstand the rigors involved with the surgery. The patient is made to undergo a series of tests to test his health in order to perform surgery on him. The method of surgery is generally followed with the other treatment methods like radiation, and chemotherapy.
Generally there are three types of surgery that are performed on the patients: The palliative surgery, the curative surgery, as well as the diagnostic surgery. Some surgeries like thoracentasis fall under more than on category. Out of the three types of surgeries the curative surgery only has the potential to completely remove the whole of the cancer from the infected region. But this is only possible when the cancer is detected in its initial stages. However the cancer of mesothelioma is almost always detected in its last stages when the only option left is to provide the palliative treatment to the patient.
